Quach Duc Huy and Tran My Duyen and their house live with pollution |
That is the topic of two students Quach Duc Huy and Tran My Duyen (grade 10/14, Tran Phu High School, Da Nang).
Huy and Duyen shared that this topic originated from the fact that in October 2015, people near Khanh Son landfill blocked vehicles to protest the pollution caused by this landfill.
Huy, Duyen and their homeroom teacher Tran Thi Thu Nga went on a field trip to the landfill and to local houses. Through their experience, the three teachers and students noted that the local people were suffering from the foul odor from Khanh Son landfill, noise, dust from quarrying, smoke pollution from burning garbage, etc., while most of the residents' houses were level 4 houses.
After that, Huy and Duyen started designing a house that can "live with" pollution, a house that is suitable for the lives of the people here.
Each house currently in use to use this system needs about 10 million VND more for 100m2.
Pointing at the house model, the two friends said the roof was sprayed with TiO2 (titanium dioxide) paint and the yard tiles were used to oxidize toxic gases.
Main doors and windows are made of plastic-coated fiberglass with small meshes to prevent dust and insects, along with a system of slats that can rotate in different directions to reduce dust and toxic gases from fires.
The house also has an activated carbon filter to remove odors, toxic gases, and dust... to help the air become cleaner.
In addition, there is also a green tree system such as mint, chives around, indoor plants such as aloe vera, ferns, snake plants... to filter the air, absorb pollutants, kill mosquitoes and insects.
