Before that, at around 12 noon on October 2, Lo Duong Tu (5D class student, Huong Tien Primary School, Hien village, Ngoc Lam commune, Thanh Chuong district) went to the stream behind his house to wash his raincoat and bicycle. At this time, Tu saw two children Vi The Truong (5 years old) and Luong Gia Bao (5 years old) living in the same village standing on a small rock, preparing to jump into the stream to bathe.

Seeing that, Tu told the two children not to bathe because the water there was very deep. Then Truong and Bao continued to wade along the stream to bathe. After a while, Vi The Truong fell into a deep puddle and drowned. Seeing his friend drowning, Luong Gia Bao rushed out to pull him in and also drowned. At this time, standing on the shore, a younger sister named Kim Thoa discovered Truong and Bao drowning and called for help. Hearing the cries for help, Tu ran over and rushed into the stream to pull both children safely to shore.
