Xiangyang students return to school after flash flood

On the morning of October 3, students of Luong Minh Primary Boarding School in Tuong Duong district returned to school after a 2-day break to overcome the consequences of the historic flash flood that occurred on the evening of September 30.

As reported by Nghe An Newspaper, on the night of September 30 in the areaHeavy rain occurred in Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district.. After a prolonged heavy rain, flash floods poured down from the mountains, causing the Luong Minh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities in Tuong Duong District to be flooded, with rocks and soil entering classrooms, damaging many of the students' belongings and books. In order to prevent learning and teaching from being interrupted for long, as soon as the water receded, the local authorities and teachers in the school made efforts to overcome the consequences of the flash floods and quickly stabilize teaching and learning.

After more than 2 days, with the support of the army, police, union members, and militia, Luong Minh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities was cleaned, disinfected, and ensured safety for students to return to school.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - Principal of Luong Minh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities said: “In the past few days, thanks to the joint support of the army, police, union members, and militia, the work of overcoming the consequences of the flash flood that occurred on the evening of September 30 has been faster and more timely. Thanks to that, this morning, teachers welcomed students back to school. In the coming days, in parallel with teaching and learning, the school will continue to overcome the consequences left behind by the flood.”

It is known that after the flood that occurred on the evening of September 30, many belongings, books of boarding students as well as school equipment were damaged and could not be reused. The total damage is estimated at nearly 300 million VND.

"The school hopes that all levels, sectors, benefactors and donors will pay attention to supporting the school with supplies for boarding students, books, school supplies for students... to soon stabilize teaching and learning" - Mr. Thanh shared more.
