Nghe An Farmers' Association receives funding for female members from the United Nations Population Fund

(Baonghean.vn) - The Provincial Farmers' Association received 2,270 sets of essential supplies with a total value of over 2 billion VND sponsored by UNFPA to support female members in flood-affected areas in Tan Ky and Thanh Chuong districts.

On the afternoon of December 23, in Tan Ky district, the Provincial Farmers' Association held a ceremony to receive donations of essential supplies for women in flood-affected areas in the Central provinces, implemented by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam.

Every year, in the central provinces of Vietnam, people not only regularly suffer the severe impacts of climate change, but also suffer huge losses and damages in terms of both human life and property due to storms and floods.

During the recent floods, many localities in Nghe An province suffered significant damage.

Through the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, UNFPA has cooperated and effectively provided assistance to women and girls in the central provinces heavily affected by floods, including Nghe An.

Accordingly, 2,270 essential kits worth over VND2 billion were sponsored by UNFPA to support female farmers in flood-affected areas in Tan Ky and Thanh Chuong districts, Nghe An province. The emergency relief kits include basic, essential items for women and girls to protect themselves and maintain personal hygiene.

The kit is a key component of UNFPA’s comprehensive humanitarian response to protect the health and reproductive health and rights of women and girls; reduce the risks of gender-based violence; and respond to and protect the dignity of women and girls negatively affected by crises; helping women protect their health, overcome difficulties, and stabilize their lives.

Since the mid-1990s, UNFPA has been providing emergency relief kits in humanitarian crises around the world.

Also on the afternoon of December 23, Tan Ky District Farmers' Association organized a meeting to summarize the Association's work and farmers' movement in 2022 and deploy tasks for 2023.

In 2022, Tan Ky District Farmers' Association at all levels innovated in content and methods of operation, closely following the direction of the superior Association and the local political tasks to effectively direct and operate, close to the reality at the grassroots level.

In 2022, 11,698 Tan Ky farmer member households registered to strive to be good farmers and business households at all levels. To date, 22/22 Association bases have registered and implemented activities to help poor households.

The whole district has built 11 economic models; 23 environmental protection models; mobilized people to contribute in cash: 3.8 billion VND; contributed 25,800 working days; donated 60,120m2 land, gardens; renovate and repair 42km of roads; repair and solidify 73km of canals; implement the construction of 6 new rural model gardens...
