More than 3 billion VND worth of fish belonging to Nam Dan farmers swept away by floodwaters
(Baonghean.vn) - During the flood from September 2 to 5, in Nam Dan district (Nghe An), nearly 102 hectares of fish ponds were flooded, causing estimated damage of over 3 billion VND.

Mr. Le Van Phuc's family in Hamlet 9, Xuan Hoa Commune (Nam Dan) has a 4-sao pond used to raise fish for breeding and meat. Mr. Phuc said: The recent floods have caused the entire area of the fish pond to be flooded. Although the family used nets to surround the pond, due to the deep flood and strong currents, about 70% of the fish have escaped from the pond.
Mr. Ho Manh Hung - Chairman of Xuan Hoa Commune People's Committee said: The locality has 54 hectares of fish ponds, people here specialize in raising fish for breeding and meat, bringing quite high economic efficiency. Of which, more than 30 hectares were flooded for many days (from September 2 to 5), causing fish farmers to suffer losses of over 70%.

It is forecasted that there will continue to be heavy rain tonight, September 5, so local authorities are advising people to find solutions to prevent fish from leaving the pond, such as: Using soil sacks and nets around the pond banks.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nam Dan district, during the flood from September 2 to 5, nearly 102 hectares of fish ponds were flooded in the district. The most affected communes were Xuan Hoa with 30 hectares, Nam Trung with nearly 19 hectares, Van Dien with 20 hectares, Nam Cat with 17 hectares, Nam Kim with 10 hectares...
Mr. Nguyen Dinh The - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nam Dan district said: Calculating that 1 sao of fish pond was flooded, the damage was 1.5 million VND, so fish farmers in the district suffered a loss of over 3 billion VND during this flood for nearly 102 hectares of flooded fish ponds.
According to the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, during the recent flood, 406.6 hectares of aquaculture area were flooded in Nghe An. Of which, 102 hectares were in Nam Dan district, the rest were in Nghi Loc, Vinh city and some other localities.
