Russia-US cooperation in Syria: 'No room for resentment'

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov did not hesitate to mention the US reaction to military actions in Syria. He said: "Cooperation between Moscow and Washington has a huge impact on the chaotic situation in Syria. We are realists, and understand that there is no place for resentment and insulting each other's reputations here."

According to him, the IS terrorist force is a threat to everyone, not only the Syrian people and countries in the region, but terrorists have appeared with increasing frequency in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia. "Therefore, in Syria, we clearly understand the responsibility for what we are doing," Mr. Lavrov emphasized.

Russia and the United States have always tried to avoid direct military clashes in the Syrian battlefield, but if their allies and partners continue to be attacked by the other side, this restraint is unlikely to last. Recently, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson expressed his intention to expand the scope of interaction, while, according to Mr. Lavrov, Moscow has mentioned this issue many times.

If a Russian-American military clash breaks out on the Syrian battlefield, the two countries will not only not be able to find their own interests here but will also suffer many unimaginable losses.

"Hopefully this scenario is unlikely to happen, because we all understand that we cannot recklessly rush into a risky gamble that would trade off our vital security interests in the region," said the Russian Foreign Minister.

Making a proposal to de-escalate the situation in Syria, Foreign Minister Lavrov said: "In order to stabilize and prevent bloodshed, it is best to start a dialogue between the Syrian government and various armed groups, as well as local authorities."
