Hung Nguyen supports farmers to convert crops on drought-stricken land.
(Baonghean.vn) - Summer-autumn crop production in Hung Nguyen is taking place in severe drought conditions. The heat is seriously affecting production.
Up to now, the whole Hung Nguyen district has planted 4,646 hectares out of the total production area of 5,400 hectares, reaching 85%. However, the water sources on Hoang Can River, low dykes, Gai Canal, Le Xuan Dao Canal, Hanh Phuc River... are all exhausted. Most of the pumping stations do not have a source to pump, especially in the outer and middle communes.

Mr. Hoang Duc An - Head of the district's agricultural department said: In Hung Nguyen district, there are more than 1,500 hectares of cultivated land lacking water and suffering from severe drought. |
Currently, nearly 300 hectares of highland rice in the two communes of Hung Yen Nam and Hung Yen Bac do not have water for production. Most of this area depends on the water source of Thach Trien dam and Khe Ngang dam. Particularly, nearly 500 hectares in low-lying areas in all communes, at the end of the source, do not have water, are behind schedule, and are not in production. This area usually has to be sown and planted before June 20.

Without water, many summer-autumn rice fields are abandoned. |
In particular, about 800 hectares are severely drought-stricken, concentrated in communes such as Hung Yen Bac, Hung Yen Nam, Hung Tay 1, Hung Tay 2, some areas of blocks 11, 12 - town, Tan Nhuong - Hung Dao, Hung Phuc, Hung Loi areas belonging to pumping stations 12, 13 and areas belonging to pumping station 11 Hung Thinh... The above areas in the coming days if the weather continues to be hot and dry, are at risk of dying.
The drought has also prevented most upland crops such as sesame, vegetables, and beans in many communes from being planted. Some areas of lemon trees in Hung Yen Nam and Hung Yen Bac are wilting and at risk of dying.

Mr. Hoang Duc An - Head of the district's agricultural department said that, in that situation, the district has had many solutions to fight drought. We use Rum River pumping station, Hung Xuan pumping station to pump water down to Le Xuan Dao canal - creating a source for the communes in the middle area, prioritizing the area for Hung Thang, Hung Tien belonging to Tien Thang pumping station; the area of Hung Thang, Hung Phuc, Hung My belonging to My Giang pumping station.
In addition, temporarily stop pumping station 12/9 to concentrate water for pumping stations 12,13 to pump water for Hung Phuc and Hung Loi. Use Hung Linh pumping station to pump down Lam Tra canal to create a source for Hung Dao and the town; Use Van Hong pumping station to pump additional water for some downstream areas of Hung Yen Bac.
“However, some areas of Hung Tay 1, Hung Tay 2, Hung Yen Nam, and Hung Yen Bac are in a state of force majeure,” said Mr. An.
Mr. Ngo Phu Han - Chairman of the District People's Committee said: The district has issued a policy mechanism to support 1.5 million VND/ha for all high-yield rice areas to be converted to dry crops. It is expected to direct the conversion to winter-spring corn and potato cultivation; at the same time, deploy the construction of a model to convert to autumn-sugar sugarcane cultivation. We propose that the Provincial People's Committee and departments support the cost of excess pumping electricity and fuel for some key communes that are affected by drought and multi-level pumping; support dredging and repairing some canals in communes, especially Hoang Can canal from bara Hung Tay to Hung Thinh. Support upgrading the pumping station and building the Hung Linh canal to supply water to Hung Dao and the town. Expand the sluice and Hung Xuan pumping station across dike 42, install 2 more machines - 2,000m3/h to create water for the communes in the middle.... |
