(Baonghean.vn) - Voters in Quynh Luu district have proposed support for investment in dredging and expanding the fishing ports of Lach Quen (Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu) and Lach Van (Dien Van commune, Dien Chau). Currently, the waterway is very shallow, making it difficult for large ships to enter and exit and take shelter from storms.

Regarding this issue, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development responded as follows:

* About the Lach Quen fishing port upgrade project, Quynh Luu district:

- The Lach Quen Fishing Port Upgrade Project, Quynh Luu District, invested by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, was approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 2323/QD-UBND dated May 25, 2016, with a total investment of VND 103,400 million; currently, the Department is organizing a bidding for consultancy to establish construction drawing design and estimate, expected to start construction in 2017.

* Regarding dredging Lach Van estuary, Dien Chau district:

- The current status of the waterways of river mouths in the province is mostly very shallow, affecting the movement of boats and ships of fishermen. In 2015, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the People's Committee of Dien Chau district to establish a project to upgrade and expand Lach Van fishing port, including the item: Dredging Lach Van estuary (using WB capital from the Coastal Resources Development Project (CRSD).

However, due to the large investment cost, the People's Committee of Dien Chau district has agreed to prioritize upgrading and expanding the fishing port to ensure safety for ships during the storm and flood season and facilitate the trading activities of fishermen. To date, the Lach Van Fishing Port Upgrading and Expansion Project has been completed (with an investment cost of 30 billion VND).

Dredging Lach Van estuary is extremely necessary, however, due to funding difficulties, it has not been implemented yet. In the coming time, it is recommended that the People's Committee of Dien Chau district propose to the Provincial People's Committee to approve the project (according to the provisions of the Law on Public Investment); the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to mobilize capital sources to invest in dredging estuaries in the province, to ensure the safety of fishermen's boats entering and leaving fishing ports, fishing wharves and storm shelters./.
