In the near future, Que Phong district will plant 600,000 cinnamon trees so that ethnic minorities can have a sustainable source of income.

Cinnamon trees are considered by ethnic minorities in Que Phong district as a high-income tree, because traders buy from roots to leaves. It is a native tree with high essential oil content, associated with the local name.
Nam Giai Commune is a locality with great potential for growing cinnamon trees. In fact, the area of cinnamon trees here is quite large, with about 100 hectares. Many households grow cinnamon trees in their gardens, some even grow cinnamon gardens.

Ms. Lu Thi Tien - Vice Chairman of Nam Giai Commune People's Committee said that from the capital source ofNational Target ProgramIn addition to supporting people with livestock breeds, Nam Giai commune also requested the district to support cinnamon tree seeds for planting and expanding the area.
Not only Nam Giai commune, other localities such as Chau Kim, Tien Phong, Muong Noc, Chau Thon... also requested the district to support Quy cinnamon seedlings for planting in the coming time.

Mr. Pham Hoang Mai - Director of the Agricultural Service Center of Que Phong district said: From the capital of the sub-project to support production development in the agricultural sector under the National Target Program, period 2021 - 2025, Que Phong district chose cinnamon as one of the main crops to support people to develop production and increase income.
Accordingly, the entire district will plant 600,000 cinnamon trees by the end of 2024. To have enough seedlings to supply to localities, currently, 3 nursery facilities in the district are speeding up the nursery progress and actively taking care of them, ensuring quality seedlings.
The Management Board of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve is one of the units that is cultivating Que Que cinnamon seedlings to supply to the district for planting in the coming time. It is known that the Management Board of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve is currently taking care of 100,000 seedlings concentrated in the nursery and continues to mobilize workers to cultivate tens of thousands of new trees.
The cinnamon area of Que Phong district is currently nearly 750 hectares. With the upcoming planting of 600,000 new trees, the cinnamon area of Que Phong district will increase by another 240 hectares, bringing the total cinnamon area in this locality to nearly 1,000 hectares, becoming a perennial crop that is expected to be a sustainable poverty alleviation tree for the people.

Mr. Duong Hoang Vu - Chairman of Que Phong District People's Committee said: The characteristic of the native cinnamon tree is its high essential oil content. Cinnamon is not only a valuable raw material in the pharmaceutical and food processing industry, but cinnamon wood is also good for producing household wooden furniture. As a locality where people mainly depend on forestry, therefore, the cinnamon tree is not only a poverty-reducing tree, but also a tree that enriches the ethnic minorities here.
"The policy of Que Phong district calls for attracting businesses to invest in cinnamon processing factories in the locality, in order to purchase cinnamon products for local people, to increase the value of cinnamon trees. Up to now, because there has not been a cinnamon processing factory in the district, cinnamon bark products harvested by local people are sold to traders to transport to other places for processing, causing the value of cinnamon products to decrease," Mr. Duong Hoang Vu shared.
