At about 2:00 a.m. on July 7, Ms. Van Thi T. and her husband, Mr. Hoang Xuan (residing in Ha Giang village, Vinh Ha commune, Phu Vang district) went to Hon Chao beach in Phu Loc district (TT-Hue) to catch seafood.

At around 3am, Ms. T. was standing on a trawl boat (a way of catching seafood) when an octopus crawled up and bit her leg, after which Ms. T. fainted.

Mr. Xuan immediately brought the boat to shore to take his wife to Da Nang General Hospital for emergency treatment, but when they arrived at the hospital, the doctor said Ms. T. had died.

According to Mr. Xuan, the doctor said that his wife was poisoned by an octopus bite.

After the incident, the authorities seized the dead octopus that bit Ms. T. to death.

However, because the family wished not to investigate the cause of death, the octopus was returned to the family.
