Iraq displays dozens of IS suicide car bombers

Iraqi police have released a list of vehicles used by the Islamic State group in suicide attacks over the past three years.

Iraqi security forces today displayed 23 homemade armored suicide bombers confiscated from the Islamic State (IS) group's stronghold in Mosul.Reuters said.

These vehicles are mostly civilian, fitted with thick steel plates with windows small enough for the driver inside to see.The vehicles were packed with explosives, similar to those used by IS in previous suicide attacks.

Many vehicles were painted camouflage or blue to resemble Iraqi police combat vehicles, in order to mislead spy planes.

Prominent among the IS weapons and equipment confiscated in Mosul was an anti-aircraft gun. The gun was mounted on aA truck-mounted gun turret designed to target military aircraft and infantry from a distance.

GrandfatherBassam Hillo Kadhim, the Iraqi police commander, said the country's Emergency Situations Unit and police seized the vehicles after capturing Mosul from IS earlier this week. After putting them on display,Iraq will destroy those suicide car bombs.

4 days after Iraqi Prime MinisterHaider al-Abadideclared the liberation of Mosul, cIraqi forces are still pressing IS in the old city center today.

The Iraqi army began the operation to liberate Mosul in October last year. The nine-month battle has left 900,000 people homeless and thousands dead.
