IS threatens to attack a series of airports in the UK and the US

(Baonghean.vn) - A Twitter account supporting the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) warned of attacks on Heathrow Airport in the UK, Los Angeles International Airport, and New York Kennedy Airport in the US on July 4. This is an important holiday in the US on the occasion of Independence Day.

This warning was discovered early this morning by Site Intelligence Group - a group that specializes in monitoring the online activities of terrorist organizations.

Accordingly, an IS-supporting Twitter account repeatedly warned that it would carry out attacks on planes on flights from Heathrow to the US, and said that "there will be devices installed either at Heathrow, Los Angeles International Airport or New York Kennedy Airport."

This statement has not been verified but is noteworthy in the context of the recent terrorist attack at Ataturk airport in Türkiye, at the same time that Americans have an important holiday on the occasion of US Independence Day.

Lord Armad, UK Transport Minister, urged people to be vigilant: “We must be extremely vigilant against the global threat from terrorists. In the UK, we closely control all issues related to aviation security, strengthening cooperation with international partners to minimize risks. We will try to implement all necessary measures to ensure the safety of people. However, for security reasons, we cannot publicly disclose details of these measures.”

In the US, many airports are also under tight security. A terminal at New York Kennedy Airport was evacuated after a suspicious bag was found. However, subsequent investigation showed that the bag was not dangerous. In New York, for the first time, police had to mobilize sniffer dogs to detect suspicious objects containing bombs.
