On the afternoon of October 5, Ho Chi Minh City police completed the investigation of the scene where Nguyen Quang Huy (21 years old) slashed many people at Buu Quang Pagoda, Le Thi Hoa Street, Thu Duc District. Police also took statements from several witnesses to clarify the suspect's actions.
According to the investigation agency, Huy entered Buu Quang pagoda to practice Buddhism under the name Thien Huy. After a while, he left but returned a few months later and asked to continue staying at the pagoda. About a month ago, Huy said he was going to Dong Nai to practice Buddhism, then returned to Buu Quang pagoda on the evening of October 4.
Around 10am the next day, when the monks were preparing the ceremony, Huy was heard yelling at Master Nguyen Tue. He shouted loudly, saying "I will kill him" and ran into the kitchen to get a knife. When he came back, Huy slashed Master Thien Duc to the ground, screaming and chasing after Master Nguyen Tue.
Arriving at the area where nun Quang Ngoc (101 years old, in a wheelchair) was chanting sutras in a temple, he caught up with Master Nguyen Tue and immediately attacked. Immediately after that, he stabbed nun Quang Ngoc and seriously injured another monk.
Many monks and people who went to the temple surrounded Huy and handed him over to the police. While struggling, he continued to slash and injure two people.
Brought to the hospital, Venerable Quang Ngoc did not survive. Three seriously injured monks are being treated, while two victims with less serious injuries have been discharged.

Working with the investigation agency, monks at Buu Quang Pagoda said that since returning here to become a monk, Huy has been taciturn and quiet.
"In addition to clarifying his motive for committing the crime, we do not rule out the possibility that he has a mental disorder. A psychiatric assessment of the suspect will be conducted," said an investigator.
