According to initial information, the incident occurred at around 11:15 a.m. on May 16 in Tan Thanh commune, Vu Ban district, Nam Dinh province.
At that time, people discovered a man committing theft, so they shouted and arrested this man.
While restraining the thief, many people lost their composure and started beating him, causing him serious injuries. He was then taken to the emergency room but died due to his severe injuries.
The man and his motorbike were arrested by the people.
Lieutenant Colonel Phan Van Ly - Head of Vu Ban District Police confirmed the above incident. After receiving the report from Tan Thanh Commune Police, the unit promptly arrived at the scene to investigate and clarify the incident.
Lieutenant Colonel Ly said that through investigation, it was determined that the man who committed the theft lived in Van Mieu Ward, Nam Dinh City. This person had many criminal records and suffered from social diseases. Around noon on May 16, he went to Tan Thanh Commune to steal money from people. After that, the subject went to a second house to continue breaking into the door but was discovered and fled on a motorbike before being arrested.
Currently, Vu Ban District Police are coordinating with Nam Dinh Provincial Police to extract camera footage to investigate and clarify the incident as well as identify the subjects who beat people.
