Presidential election results show Ukrainians are ready to start over
The results of the presidential election in Ukraine show that the Ukrainian people cannot retreat any further and are ready to start over, as long as they do not follow the path of Piotr Poroshenko. That is the comment of expert Leonid Polyakov from the Institute of Socio-Political Research (under the Russian Academy of Sciences).

Mr. Zelensky received the news of his victory. |
“The choice that the Ukrainian people have just made means that in principle there is no going back. When they choose a person who has absolutely no understanding of politics, who has no experience in state management and no military prestige - because he will be the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, it means that the nation is ready to start everything from scratch,” Polyakov said during the roundtable discussion.
According to him, in this connection, Ukraine will have to go through a harsh experiment.
“As for the future, from what the now President-elect Zelensky said, I think it is too early to judge. Talking is one thing, but he can start doing something else, because he is not independent, but dependent. Everyone knows that the person behind it is the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky,” Polyakov noted.
The expert added that even Zelensky himself cannot currently predict “which way it will turn.”
The second round of Ukraine's presidential election took place on Sunday. The candidates for the head of state are current President Piotr Poroshenko and the first round's leader - comedian Vladimir Zelensky.
According to data from the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, Zelensky led the second round of the election, winning the support of 73% of voters after processing 90.25% of the ballots.
