Survey to preserve the mother tree of Bu Sen orange variety in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - The Bu Sen orange variety in Anh Son district has affirmed its brand, bringing high income to many households. The district is currently completing the procedures to register for recognition of the parent tree of the Bu Sen orange variety.
The Bu Sen orange tree, also known as the Kim Nhan Bu orange, is a native tree that has been naturally selected over decades and still exists today. The orange harvest season begins in the early December of the lunar calendar and lasts until the end of January of the following year.
Bu Sen orange trees first appeared in 1972, planted by the Cooperative of the Elders of Thach Son commune in the Kim Nhan mountain area. In 1986, Mr. Bui Xuan Lang in Thach Son commune planted and preserved the trees, and in 1996, this garden was transferred to Mr. Tran Van Hai in village 10, Hoi Son commune, to take care of and harvest them until now.

In order to preserve and maintain the precious genetic resources of the Kim Nhan Bu Sen orange tree, recently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Anh Son district has coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Selection Council of the mother tree of Nghe An province to establish a Selection Council and send experts and technical staff to conduct field surveys in Anh Son district to monitor, test and evaluate the growth and development process of the Bu Sen orange variety to register for recognition of the mother tree.
Through the survey, 7 orange trees with all the factors, qualities, and many agrobiological characteristics similar to the original variety were selected and selected as parent trees with many outstanding characteristics compared to other trees under the same care conditions, such as: ability to resist pests and diseases; strong growth, high and stable annual yield of 15 tons/ha; drought and cold resistance; tree height 5.2 m, trunk diameter (base) 20 - 25 cm, canopy diameter 4.5 - 5 m; round and slightly flat fruit, characteristic aroma, rich sweet taste...

Based on the results of the council's selection, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will issue a decision to recognize the parent tree, establish a management record to monitor the certified Bu Sen orange trees, and manage them according to regulations to better serve the work of conservation, preservation, research, propagation and development of disease-free tree production to provide good seed sources for producers.
The construction and completion of the system of Bu Sen orange seedling gardens to ensure quality is a prerequisite for Anh Son district to maintain the brand of seedlings in the trend of integration and development. Creating a legal and scientific basis for the district's agricultural sector to gradually develop a plan for concentrated and quality seedling production, preserving the genetic resources of crops with high economic value.
