Placing your phone, especially charging it, on the bed can cause the device to heat up, causing a fire on the blanket and mattress, which is dangerous for the user.

The New York Police Department (USA) posted four photos with a message urging people not to leave their mobile phones in bed, to ensure health safety. The photos recorded the accidents showing the bedding caught on fire, the cause of which was smartphones.

The warning message was issued by the New York Police Department.

"Many people leave cell phones on their beds, when these are devices that should be in a well-ventilated area," said David Berardesca, head of the fire department.Hamden (USA) said."We recommend placing electronic devices on a hard surface, as hot batteries can cause fires and in some cases, explosions."

In November 2015, Dwayne Blanchard, a US resident, posted a photo on Facebook showing his son's bed and pillow on fire after charging his Bluetooth speaker there. "I woke up to the sound of a fire alarm and a burning smell. I ran to my son's room and saw the device and pillow on fire."

In another case in 2014, Ariel Tolfree put her phone under her pillow and charged it, causing the 13-year-old girl's bed to burst into flames. Even more dangerous, her father said that putting her phone and charging it under her pillow while sleeping was Ariel Tolfree's habit.

In addition to the risk of fire and explosion, there have also been a number of tragic accidents in Vietnam caused by using phones while charging. In September 2015, a pregnant woman in Nghe An was electrocuted to death while holding her smartphone while it was charging. Another case involved a 13-year-old boy who went to his uncle’s house and saw his phone was charging, so he picked it up and was electrocuted to death.
