Ukrainian President Piotr Poroshenko may attempt a coup in case of election failure, - political analyst Vitaly Kamyshev said.

“A coup attempt cannot be ruled out if Poroshenko sees, which is now quite clear, that he cannot win this election. This risk is becoming apparent on the threshold of the second round of elections,” the expert hypothesized during a roundtable discussion “Results of the first round of presidential elections in Ukraine.”

At the same time, Mr. Kamyshev added that this is the most negative scenario of the development of events in the course of the presidential elections in Ukraine, "the most extreme and unfavorable option that can be pushed by tensions".

The presidential election took place in Ukraine on March 31. According to the Central Election Commission, no candidate received the required number of votes to win in the first round. The second round will be held on April 21.
