Proposal to test long-haul drivers for drugs
This morning (January 3), Mr. Khuat Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, said he would recommend that the Government direct localities to check the health, alcohol concentration, and especially drug levels of car drivers, including long-distance drivers.
Immediately after inspecting the scene of the tragic accident in Ben Luc, Long An, this morning (January 3), Mr. Khuat Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, said that he would recommend that the Government direct localities to check the health, alcohol concentration, and especially drugs of car drivers, including long-distance drivers.

According to Mr. Khuat Viet Hung, tomorrow (January 4, 2019), at the national meeting to summarize national traffic safety in 2018 and deploy tasks for 2019, the National Traffic Safety Committee will give opinions and advise the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee to direct the dissemination and education of laws, closely linked to the handling of violations of alcohol concentration.
At the same time, it is recommended that the Government direct localities to organize health check-ups and drug testing, especially focusing on container truck and long-distance bus drivers nationwide...
Mr. Khuat Viet Hung, Deputy Head of the National Traffic Safety Committee said: "During the recent New Year, according to information from the health sector, the number of victims hospitalized due to traffic accidents and violations of alcohol concentration causing traffic accidents was high. Therefore, our National Traffic Safety Committee also has opinions to promptly detect and prevent people who violate the law from driving vehicles, leading to the risk of causing traffic accidents, like the particularly tragic traffic accident yesterday."
Also this morning, the Ministry of Transport, the National Traffic Safety Committee and a number of relevant units inspected traffic safety conditions at the scene of the accident that killed 4 people and injured 18 others when a container truck crashed into a series of motorbikes while stopped at a red light. Thereby, there is a plan to reorganize traffic in this area and many key routes in the Southeast region and the Mekong Delta region./.
