North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump.

The two met in Pyongyang, where the special envoy handed over a letter from President Moon Jae-in to Kim Jong-un. After the meeting, the special envoy said that Kim Jong-undisagrees with Washington's view that there has been no progress in the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

The leader of the DPRK also said that the dismantling of the Phungeri weapons testing site has almost deprived the country of the ability to conduct new nuclear tests. According to him, the international community has not fully assessed Pyongyang's steps.

At the same time, Mr. Kim Jong-un stated that he continues to hope to complete the process of resolving the situation on the peninsula and normalizing relations with the United States before the end of Donald Trump's presidential term in January 2021.

The North Korean leader also added that he did not link a formal agreement on ending the war on the Korean peninsula to the presence of US troops in the region.
