The female buffalo with the horns pointing to the ground gave birth to 6 buffalo calves. The owner loved it. Many people wanted to buy it but she refused to sell it. The owner even planned to bury this strange buffalo when it died.

The owners of this strange buffalo are Mr. Hoang Cuong (49 years old) and Mrs. Truong Thi Ha (42 years old), residing in Giao Liem village, Trieu Do commune (Trieu Phong, Quang Tri).

The buffalo has a pair of rare horns about 50cm long.

Ms. Ha said that her family bought the buffalo from a local person when it was 1 year old for 3 million VND. At that time, the buffalo's horns had just sprouted about 5cm, and when touched, they felt soft like teeth about to fall out.

Then the buffalo's horns grew bigger, but instead of growing up towards the sky like other buffaloes, they grew down towards the ground - called the earth-pointing horns. Because of these strange horns, Mrs. Ha and her husband named the buffalo Quap.

Buffalo horns are sharp and curved into a circle almost stuck together.

Ms. Ha said that up to now, the 9-year-old Quap buffalo has given birth to 6 buffaloes, but none of them have horns like their mother. The whole Trieu Do commune and neighboring communes raise quite a lot of buffaloes, but none of them have horns similar to Quap buffalo.

Because of the difference in its pair of horns, the Quap buffalo attracts a lot of attention, including many foreign visitors who often ask the owner to take a photo with the buffalo when passing by.

Ms. Ha said that this buffalo is very gentle, after being released into the fields to find food, it will return home by itself. The pair of horns only point to the land, making the Quap buffalo weak, but when an animal attacks its calf, it is ready to respond with all its strength to protect its calf.

Mrs. Ha's family loved the buffalo Quap very much, did not force it to plow and planned to give it a proper burial when it grew old and died.

Because of their love for Quap buffalo, even though Mrs. Ha and her husband farmed 2 hectares of land, they did not use the buffalo to plow. Many people saw the strange horns and asked to buy the buffalo, but Mrs. Ha and her husband refused to sell.

The curved horns make the buffalo weak but it still protects its calf if an enemy attacks.

“The day I discovered the buffalo’s horns were bent, the villagers advised me to sell it because they believed that raising buffaloes with bent horns would make it difficult to make a living. However, I loved the buffalo so I kept it and my family continued to do business as usual. Thanks to its fertility, I was able to sell the buffalo and have money to build a house,” said Ms. Ha.

According to Ms. Ha, the family plans to bury the buffalo properly when it dies, not sell or butcher it.
