This honest 40-year-old driver named Thanakrit Hengniran said he had no regrets when he learned that in his backpack were 16 T-shirts, a Macbook and 800,000 yen (equivalent to 172 million VND).

Thai police then returned the backpack to the owner, Mr. Keishi Kobayashi, 29 years old, who is in the garment business.

“I am very happy that he found his belongings and did not lose anything. That will make him have a good impression of Thailand and its people,” Mr. Thanakrit said. “We are disciplined, just like the Japanese people.”

Afterwards, Mr. Thanakrit received a reward of 5,000 baht (equivalent to 3 million VND) from Mr. Kobayashi.

Besides making a living, taxi drivers in Bangkok are now facing increasingly fierce competition from service companies such as Uber. However, stories of kind-hearted Thai taxi drivers are not uncommon, said Deputy Inspector Pramote Chanboonkaew of the Bukkalo Police Station in Bangkok.
