(Baonghean) - Along with investing in improving the quality of teaching and learning, in recent years, schools in the province have focused on developing school libraries. However, for libraries to operate effectively, many factors are required...

Effective

The classroom library of class 5A, Chi Khe 1 Primary School (Chi Khe commune, Con Cuong district) is located right at the end of the classroom, and is a place where class members stay the most during recess.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, the class's homeroom teacher, said: Most of the students in the class are ethnic minorities, living in difficult circumstances, so they do not have many opportunities to read books at home. Since the establishment of the classroom library, the students have gradually formed the habit of reading books.

As one of the four national standard level 2 schools in Con Cuong district, in parallel with teaching and learning, the Board of Directors of Chi Khe 1 Primary School pays great attention to building a school library. Currently, in addition to the classroom library located in each class, the school has also built a mobile library in the schoolyard for students to read during recess and a library reading room with many books and newspapers.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung - Principal of the school said: Because of their young age, primary school students do not have the habit and skills of reading. Therefore, the school always tries to create a friendly environment and encourage them with many exciting and interesting activities. For example, every year the school organizes a reading festival. Every week, every month, depending on the theme, the school's team will organize activities such as storytelling competitions based on books.

At Dien Yen 2 Primary School (Dien Chau), with the aim of helping students develop comprehensively, in addition to teaching culture, the school always focuses on developing a reading culture for students. The green library is located in a mango garden area of about 100m2 with hundreds of books.

The school is interested in implementing a classroom library model with many mobilization methods such as calling on parents to build parent bookcases and calling for support from businesses to equip more books.

Each class has also established a Library Committee to organize reading time for students, guide students to write their thoughts after reading a book, and ask teachers to praise students who read books diligently...

In our province, according to statistics, currently most schools in the province at the three levels of primary, secondary and high school have libraries. In addition, the organization of library activities has also had many significant changes in the direction of increasingly rich and diverse development in types such as public libraries, classroom libraries, school garden libraries, green libraries, friendly libraries, mobile libraries, electronic libraries, etc.

In addition, with the support of organizations and businesses, many new and modern library models have been built and operated effectively. Among them are the friendly libraries at Minh Thanh Primary School and Thinh Thanh Primary School (Yen Thanh) sponsored by the Zhishan Foundation Taiwan Project.

Through the activities of libraries, not only do we contribute to creating an interesting playground for students, encouraging the development of reading culture in schools, but we also gradually form and develop skills for students, and shape their personality.

In many schools, especially in disadvantaged areas, the library is also a bridge to help students from poor households borrow textbooks, or give textbooks to generations of students in the school.

Limit

However, for the library to operate effectively, there are still certain limitations; for example, although all schools have libraries, the staff working in the library is still inadequate, many schools are still using part-time staff.

This also affects the establishment and organization of activities to attract students to the library. In addition, due to the low budget for library investment, facilities, equipment, and the number of books in the library, which are poor, have not met the reading and borrowing needs of teachers and students, especially schools in mountainous, remote, and rural areas.

The implementation process also shows that, in order for the library to operate effectively, in addition to equipping facilities and purchasing books, school boards also need to be innovative and creative in organizing activities.

In addition, the implementation process needs to innovate the form and method of teaching, testing and evaluation in the direction of taking advantage of information sources other than textbooks, especially information from libraries. Thereby, it will improve the quality of education, encourage students to read printed and digital documents, train students' self-study, self-creativity and self-application skills.
