On this occasion, Tet chrysanthemum growers in the districts of Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, Quynh Luu, Nghi Loc... have planted the seeds for about 10 - 15 days. According to flower growers, compared to last year, this year is later because of the heavy rain, making it difficult to take care of, many households have to replant 2 - 3 times. Photo: Xuan Hoang
Mr. Phan Quoc Nam in Block 4, Yen Thanh Town said that in order for the flowers to bloom in time for Tet, at this time, households growing chrysanthemums use electric lights to light up the flowers at night to "wake them up" and not let them "sleep". This is a popular technique of flower growers, to turn night into day so that the flowers can grow as desired. Photo: Xuan Hoang
To provide enough light for the flowers to "stay awake" at night, an area of 1 sao of flowers can use nearly 40 light bulbs, with a capacity of 18W/bulb. Photo: Xuan Hoang
According to flower growers, because they have to work all night from 6pm today to 6am tomorrow, the electricity bill is quite high and they have to change light bulbs constantly because they burn out. The electricity bill alone is about 300,000 VND/sao per month. The electricity bill for a flower crop lasts more than a month. Photo: Xuan Hoang
Mr. An and his wife Tuyet in Dien Ky commune (Dien Chau) said that to have a beautiful Tet flower field, flower growers have to stay in the field all day, from weeding, pest control... so they are always busy, unable to finish all the work during the day, and at night they take advantage of electric light to keep up with the work. Flower growers share that the most difficult part of growing Tet chrysanthemums is preventing pests and diseases, especially harmful fungi, so it requires flower growers to master care techniques. Photo: Xuan Hoang
"Lighting up the plants to turn night into day stimulates the flower to continue growing at night, helping the plant to develop quickly. That way, 24/7, the flowers will continuously receive energy from light and photosynthesize to grow, the chrysanthemum will be taller, have a straight stem and especially bloom at the right time according to the owner's intention," Ms. Nguyen Thi Thi shared.
These days, coming to the “capital” of chrysanthemum growing in Yen Thanh town, other flower growing areas in Dien Chau, Quynh Luu... at night, many people cannot help but be delighted by the sparkling, bright scene with thousands of electric lights lit up at the same time on the flower fields. Seen from afar, the flower fields stand out against the quiet dark sky. Photo: Xuan Hoang
