Dr. Bun-cong Sy-ha-vong, Minister of Health of Laos, said that as of June 9, Laos has gone through 58 days without new Covid-19 infections and so far Laos is the first country with no Covid-19 patients under treatment. However, Laos is not complacent because the epidemic situation is still very complicated in many countries around the world. In the coming time, Laos will relax some regulations on international trade, because the government still requires people to strictly implement the epidemic prevention measures issued by the Ministry of Health.
Up to now, the number of people entering Laos every day is still increasing. On June 7 alone, Laos received 1,419 people, including 737 people through the Laos-Thailand border gate, 37 people through the Laos-China border gate, 639 people through the Wattay International Airport Border Gate, including 5 Chinese people and 1 Canadian. Lao authorities have taken the body temperature of all those who entered the country with special permission, and quarantined all returning citizens for 14 days as prescribed. After checking, there were no symptoms of the Covid-19 epidemic. The last patient discharged from the hospital out of 19 Covid-19 patients in Laos was a male patient, who had been tested twice and had negative results, so he was discharged from the hospital.
On the same day, Lao authorities tested 300 people returning from other countries, including 297 Lao workers returning from Thailand. There were 2 suspected cases and they are being monitored.
Currently, Laos still has 80 reception stations and organizes quarantine for 3,050 people. Through testing, so far, there are still no positive cases of Covid-19 in quarantine.
