Up to the land of yellow tea flowers in Western Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - Que Phong is considered the district with the largest number of yellow tea flowers in Nghe An. Yellow tea flowers grow naturally under the tree canopy in the forests. Local people say that the season when these trees bloom is considered a "golden season".

In 2012, a Japanese biological research team discovered the yellow tea tree in Que Phong district and published information and scientific value of this plant. In Que Phong district, the yellow tea tree grows in many places, concentrated in Thong Thu and Dong Van communes. This plant grows naturally, has many rare medicinal properties and has high economic value; it is often distributed at an altitude of 100 to nearly 1000m above sea level. In Thai, it is called: Tap Tau (turtle liver). Yellow tea is just a common name of the local people, in fact, this plant in Muong Que forests has 3 flower colors: red, yellow and white. In 2016, the People's Committee of Que Phong district developed a project to preserve and develop medicinal plants with high economic value in the period of 2016 - 2020, including yellow tea trees. The district's goal is to plant 5 hectares of yellow tea trees by 2020. Currently, in Dong Van commune (Que Phong), the Department of Science and Technology of Nghe An has built a yellow tea tree nursery near Hua Na Hydropower Plant, with the expectation of creating a source of seedlings to supply to the people. The bark of the yellow tea tree is brown, the trunk belongs to the smooth bark family. The average height of the yellow tea tree is from 3 to 5m. The largest tree can reach a diameter of 10cm and a height of more than 6m. It is quite resistant to weather. At the end of 2016, traders flocked to the villages, buying the trunks, roots, and leaves of the yellow tea tree at high prices to sell to China. Many people went into the forest to hunt for this tree to sell. Immediately after that, the People's Committee of Que Phong district said that the district had requested the People's Committees of communes, forest owners and related units to step up propaganda and mobilize people not to go into the forest to dig up roots, cut down yellow tea trees to sell.
