When a 24-year-old North Korean soldier named Oh, who defected to South Korea on November 13, woke up in the hospital, the thing he craved most was Orion Choco Pie, Fox News reported.
Orion, a company that makes Choco Pies, announced that it would give Oh a lifetime supply of the cookies. Orion also immediately sent 100 boxes of the cookies to the hospital where Oh was being treated.
"We sent Choco Pie as a welcome gift to Mr. Oh, who came to Korea after many difficulties. This is not an advertising act," said a representative of Orion company.
Choco Pie, a chocolate marshmallow sandwich, became known and loved by many North Koreans after South Korean businesses distributed it as a snack to North Korean workers at the Kaesong joint industrial complex between the two countries.
Oh was hit by five of about 40 shots fired from his comrades' pistols and AK-47s while fleeing across the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. Doctors performed emergency surgery and transfused 12 liters of blood to save Oh's life. According to doctors, Oh had hepatitis B, tuberculosis and a severe parasitic infection. Oh's health is recovering./.
