On August 9, the Nghi Loc District Police Department issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused and issue a 3-month detention order for Nguyen Van Lanh (born in 1969), residing in Hamlet 11, Nghi Lam Commune, Nghi Loc District, to investigate and clarify the act of Fraudulent appropriation of property.

Previously, Nghi Loc District Police received public opinion about the family of Mrs. Tran Thi V. (born in 1960), residing in Hamlet 8, Nghi Phuong Commune, being tricked by Nguyen Van Lanh (also known as Lanh Rau) - Director of a construction company in Nghi Lam Commune, Nghi Loc District, to "run" for Mrs. V.'s daughter, Nguyen Thi H., who was being detained by Nghe An Police, to be released on bail for 100 million VND.
Verifying the incident as reported by the public, Nghi Loc District Police persuaded the accused (Nguyen Thi H.) and Mrs. V.’s family to file a criminal complaint. After having enough documents, on August 4, the investigation agency arrested Nguyen Van Lanh.
Lanh confessed that on April 24, 2019, Nguyen Thi H. (born in 1983), residing in Hamlet 10, Nghi Phuong Commune, Nghi Loc District, was arrested by the Criminal Police Department (Nghe An Police) for the act of extortion.
Four days later, Phan Van Da (an employee of Ms. H.'s company) met Nguyen Van Lanh to ask him to help H. get bail. Lanh asked Ms. H.'s family to give him 100 million VND to "take care" of the case.
On April 29, Nguyen Van Lanh met with Ms. Tran Thi V. (H.'s biological mother) and received 100 million VND and promised to get H. released on bail. However, Lanh spent all the money without keeping his promise.
The case is currently being investigated by the authorities.
