Spring rice crop is good, yield is 3 quintals/ha higher than in 2015

(Baonghean) - At this time, farmers in the districts have begun to harvest the spring crop. After the hardships of the beginning of the season, this year's spring rice crop is considered to be a bumper crop with an estimated yield of 6.5 tons/ha, 3 quintals/ha higher than the 2015 spring crop.

In the last days of May, returning to the countryside, we immersed ourselves in the bustling atmosphere of the harvest season like a festival.

Along the communes of Yen Thanh rice district, from early morning, people in some places poured into the fields to harvest with enthusiasm, quickly harvesting to prepare for the summer-autumn crop, especially when the weather is favorable. People use harvesters to go to the fields, just need to bring motorbikes to carry each sack of rice home.

In front of the golden ripe rice field, Mr. Nguyen Huu Duc, Vinh Thanh hamlet, Nam Thanh commune, excitedly said: "This crop is a big one, uncle, making up for the initial hardship of the cold, sowing and re-sowing several times."

Through the story on the rice bank, we learned that this season, Mr. Duc's family planted 6.5 sao of rice, with the Thien Uu 8 and Khang Dan mutant varieties. At the beginning of the season, the weather was unusual and very cold, but when the rice plants developed and formed panicles, the weather was favorable, so the rice had firm grains and no money was spent on pesticides. Mr. Duc's family's rice yield is estimated at 64 quintals/ha.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Hoan - Vice Chairman of Nam Thanh Commune People's Committee said: This spring crop, the locality planted 245 hectares of rice, through survey and evaluation, the average yield is estimated at 76 quintals/ha. This is due to the commune's good crop structure, reasonable seed structure, favorable weather in recent months, favorable irrigation system and experienced care investment of the people. However, the harvest is 25 days late compared to previous years.

In the spring crop of 2015, Yen Thanh district planted 12,600 hectares of rice, of which 700 hectares were planted by farmers in collaboration with seed companies to produce various types of rice seeds. The evaluation results showed that the average rice yield in the district was estimated at 74 quintals/hectare, 3 quintals higher than the previous spring crop.

In Dien Chau district, the “heat” of the harvest season is also spreading everywhere. This is the peak time, both urgently harvesting the spring crop and preparing the land for the summer-autumn crop according to the plan.

Although production was difficult at the beginning of the season, this spring crop in Dien Chau had a good harvest in all crops, of which 9,200 hectares of rice achieved high yields. According to the inspection and assessment of the District People's Committee, for 9,200 hectares of rice, the average yield was 71.5 quintals/ha, 3.5 quintals/ha higher than the previous spring crop.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thang's family in hamlet 4, Dien Lien commune has 8 sao of rice with two main varieties: AC5 and Thien Uu 8.

Thanks to good pest control and irrigation, 100% of the family's rice fields are growing well and achieving high yields. Currently, taking advantage of favorable weather, his family is focusing on harvesting rice, with an estimated yield of 3.6 - 3.8 quintals/sao.

Mr. Phan Xuan Vinh - Vice Chairman of Dien Chau District People's Committee, said: Up to this point, it can be affirmed that the spring crop results are a victory.

Currently, scattered in some communes, people have gone to the fields to harvest rice, and it is expected that in just 1 week, the mass harvest will be completed. The application of mechanization in harvesting is being promoted, so the harvest is guaranteed to be fast and on schedule for summer-autumn production.

In the spring crop of 2016, Quynh Luu planted 7,610 hectares of rice, with high-yield and high-yield rice varieties such as Thai Xuyen, Thuy Huong, Thien Uu 8, Nhi Uu 986. In which, the district's main rice variety is Thai Xuyen, accounting for 60% of the total cultivated area. Thanks to good care by the people, along with favorable weather, the spring rice crop of 2016 grew well, had few pests and diseases and gave high yields.

According to the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the average spring rice yield in Quynh Luu this year is estimated at 69 - 70 quintals/ha, the total rice output of the district is estimated at 52,509 tons/crop. It is expected that by May 30, Quynh Luu farmers will go to the fields to harvest the main crop rice.

Assessing the productivity of the winter-spring crop, Mr. Nguyen Van Lap - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the productivity of this year's spring crop in the province is estimated at 6.5 tons/ha, 3 quintals/ha higher than the 2015 spring crop.
