The main cause of flight VN 7433 landing on the wrong runway at Cam Ranh airport (Khanh Hoa) on April 29 has been initially determined.

According to VietNamNet's source, the main cause of the incident of flight VN7433 landing on the wrong runway was because the flight crew, while observing and performing the final procedure, mistakenly identified the wrong runway.

The flight crew on the suspended flight included 7 people. Among them, the American captain has worked for Vietnam Airlines since January 2018. The person directly controlling the flight was a Vietnamese co-pilot.

Vietnam Airlines is also working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority and relevant authorities to investigate and clarify the cause of the incident.

“The airline’s stance is to be transparent, clear, and to provide full and prompt information to the investigation team of the authorities to clarify the cause and propose solutions. Safety is always the number one principle, and Vietnam Airlines absolutely will not trade this principle for anything,” Vietnam Airlines informed.

It is known that the Civil Aviation Authority investigation team is finalizing the conclusion and will announce it as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, according to a source from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry has asked units to quickly complete the investigation results to be announced tomorrow (May 2).

Serious Incident

An aviation safety expert analyzed that this was the first serious aviation incident of "an aircraft entering an unauthorized runway" in Vietnam. Fortunately, all passengers and crew were safe because the runway was paved with concrete, and the plane did not hit any equipment or obstacles on the ground.

At an altitude of 200-300m, the pilot can only see large obstacles such as cars and people walking on the runway, but cannot see construction tools. Just touching any object can be thrown back at the plane, causing broken wings, broken landing gear, exploding tires, causing the plane to fly off the runway, easily causing fire or explosion.

It is known that when the VN 7433 plane landed on the runway, on the unexploited runway, foreign objects were sucked into the plane's engine. Currently, the plane's engine and fuselage are being inspected. Vietnam Airlines is coordinating with the manufacturer to specifically check the extent of damage to the plane.
