The first lady welcomed the soon-to-be first lady with tea and a tour of the White House grounds, Press Secretary Josh Earnest said at a White House briefing.

A photo released by the White House shows the two women sitting next to each other on gilded chairs, talking together in the yellow Oval Room, part of the White House residence.

Earnest said that during the visit to Trump's future home, the two mothers talked about raising children in the White House.

Melania Trump's son Barron is now 10 years old and will be the first presidential son since President Melania Trump to grow up in the White House. Michelle Obama's eldest daughter was also only 10 years old when Obama was elected president in 2008. Sasha Obama - the Obamas' youngest daughter - was only 7 years old at the time.

Obama also showed Mr. Trump the Truman Balcony on the second floor of the White House residence, from which one can see the South Lawn and the Washington Monument.
