Merkel and Trump call on Russia to put pressure on Syria
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Donald Trump are calling on Russia to put pressure on the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad, German government representative Steffen Seibert said.

"The German Chancellor and the US President call on Russia to push the Assad regime to stop attacks on peaceful areas," Seibert said after a phone call with Merkel and Trump.
Politicians have once again accused the Syrian government of using chemical weapons.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said there was no convincing evidence of Damascus' use of chemical weapons.
