A male student suffered severe burns from electric shock, suspected to have been caused by betting to be loved.

According to the commune police, two male students were in love with the same classmate so they bet to climb an electric pole to be loved and as a result were electrocuted and severely burned.

On the morning of December 15, Mr. Pham Hieu Vinh, Director of Phu Yen General Hospital, said that he had transferred the victim Tran Tien Dat, a 9th grade student at Nguyen Huu Tho Secondary School, Binh Kien Commune, Tuy Hoa City, to Cho Ray Hospital (HCMC). The victim Dat suffered 42% electrical burns.

Dat is being treated at Phu Yen General Hospital.

The accident happened on the morning of December 14. According to Mr. Huynh Van Qui, Chief of Binh Kien Commune Police, before the accident, Dat and 5 classmates went out to eat snacks.

There was one girl in the group. Dat and another boy said they were both girls in the group. They agreed on a plan to eliminate their love rival: whoever climbed the highest electric pole would have the right to love the girl, the loser would have to withdraw.

The group went to An Phu Industrial Park (Tuy Hoa City) to compete. While Dat was climbing the 22kV electric pole, an electric spark incident occurred, causing Dat to be severely burned and fall to the ground.

A worker of An Phu Industrial Park discovered and took Dat to Phu Yen General Hospital for emergency treatment.
