There are 7 border marker self-management teams in border villages of Nhon Mai and Mai Son communes that regularly coordinate with Nhon Mai Border Guard Station to patrol and protect the border (3 teams in Huoi Co village, 4 teams in Pha Mut and Pha Khao villages of Mai Son commune and Huoi Man and Pieng Coc villages of Mai Son commune). To reach the nearest border marker, the border guards have to travel a day, marching through many hills, streams, forests and villages bordering the border. Every month, Nhon Mai Border Guard Station patrols the border and border markers at least once, and it takes about a week to reach 8 border markers.
