Holiday season, 'season' of traffic accidents
(Baonghean) -During the January holidays, ensuring traffic safety and order to reduce the risk of accidents becomes very urgent.
The number of people killed in traffic accidents during the Dinh Dau New Year increased compared to last year.
Among the traffic accidents during the recent Lunar New Year in the province, there were some that left extremely serious consequences, such as: At 1:00 p.m. on February 1 (the 5th day of Tet), at Ro bridge, in Vo Liet commune, Thanh Chuong district, a particularly serious traffic accident occurred.
Accordingly, at the above time, car with license plate 37C - 062.02 driven by Mr. Pham Van Lai (41 years old), residing in Vinh City, was traveling on Ro Bridge when it collided with 2 motorbikes with license plate 29U6 - 2956 and 37H6 - 4607 traveling in the opposite direction.
The strong collision caused 3 people on 2 motorbikes to fly over the railing of Ro bridge and fall into Lam river. As a result, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Xuan (61 years old) and her daughter-in-law Vi Thi Hue died on the spot, while 3-year-old Vo Hung Huy was seriously injured and also died later.

Mr. Vo Van Tinh, 30 years old (Ms. Hue's husband) flew into the bridge railing, severing his leg. The victims all lived in Thanh Duong commune, Thanh Chuong district. According to Colonel Luong The Loc - Head of Thanh Chuong district police, the car driver violated traffic laws by speeding, encroaching on the motorbike lane, and had an alcohol concentration exceeding the permitted level of 0.37 milligrams/liter of breath.
Also during the Tet holiday, in Tuong Duong district, a particularly serious traffic accident occurred, killing 3 people. Accordingly, at around 4:00 p.m. on January 29, a motorbike carrying 3 people traveling on National Highway 7A, through Luu Kien commune (Tuong Duong) collided with a car with a Lao license plate. The strong collision caused all 3 people, including son-in-law Duong Van Pieng (born in 1992 in Lo village) and his wife's parents, including Mr. Lu Van Cong and Mrs. Lo Thi Choi (in Ang village, Xa Luong commune) riding on the motorbike, to fall onto the road and die on the spot.
Not only on national highways, but also on provincial roads, district roads, inter-commune roads... serious traffic accidents also occur. For example, the railway traffic accident on February 1 in Quynh Luu district when a 4-seat car with license plate 37A 26... deliberately crossed the pedestrian crossing to Cau Giat and was hit by a train heading from Vinh to Hanoi and thrown into a field, 10m from its original location.
According to statistics from the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police, in 7 days, from January 26 to February 1 (ie December 29, 2016 to January 5, 2017 of the lunar calendar), the whole province had 6 traffic accidents, killing 5 people and injuring 7 people. Compared to the same period in 2016, there was an increase of 1 accident, the number of deaths did not increase or decrease, and an increase of 3 injured people. Of which, there were 3 traffic collisions, 4 injured people; 3 serious traffic accidents, 5 dead, 4 injured people; 1 especially serious traffic accident, 3 dead. |
Still the story of people's awareness
According to statistics from the Nghe An Department of Health, from December 29 to January 6 of the lunar calendar, out of 6,449 people hospitalized for emergency care, 1,143 people were hospitalized due to traffic accidents (with 6 cases of traumatic brain injury requiring surgery, 2 deaths).
During Tet, people often participate in traffic while under the influence of alcohol. The accident caused by driver Nguyen Van Lai that killed 3 people in Thanh Chuong is an example.
Furthermore, during Tet, a large number of students, university students, and workers return to their hometowns to reunite with their families. This group is mainly young people, many of whom have very poor traffic awareness. According to observations, on most village roads, alleys, or on national, provincial, and district highways, many young people ride motorbikes without helmets, speeding and recklessly overtaking, lining up side by side, occupying almost the entire road, creating a great risk of traffic accidents.
Besides, the Traffic Police and Transport Inspectorate are thin during Tet, when detecting violations, they mainly remind, sometimes the punishment is not really decisive, so many people are subjective.
In addition, there is also an objective reason that the weather during the Dinh Dau Tet holiday is sunny, leading to a higher number of traffic participants compared to the Binh Than Tet holiday.
Although the Lunar New Year has passed, January with many festivals held, the need to go to temples and pagodas to pray for luck and fortune, the need to travel is still high, which means the risk of traffic jams, chaos and traffic accidents increases. Typically, at temples and pagodas, traffic safety is constantly increasing due to the loose coordination between local authorities and temple and pagoda management boards.
Most of the roads leading to temples and pagodas are always congested during peak days, mostly due to people's limited traffic awareness, plus shops and spontaneous parking lots encroaching on the roadway and sidewalks...

Colonel Cao Minh Phuong - Head of the Provincial Traffic Police Department recommends: Nghe An has many temples, pagodas and festivals taking place in January and February, so there will be many vehicles participating in traffic, especially temples and pagodas close to national highways (Cuong temple, Cua Rao temple, Ong Hoang Muoi temple), inter-commune (Con temple)... Each person participating in traffic must strictly comply with the Law on Road and Railway Traffic. In particular, once drinking alcohol, absolutely do not drive a vehicle to participate in traffic.
On the industry side, in addition to continuing to implement the Traffic Safety Plans, it will coordinate with local authorities to strengthen propaganda and raise people's awareness when participating in traffic at festival sites; continue to mobilize maximum forces and means to patrol, control and guide traffic at intersections and complicated traffic safety gathering places.
In festival areas, patrols and controls will be strengthened to promptly prevent and thoroughly handle traffic safety violations, especially in temple and pagoda areas, contributing to a safe festival season for people.
From December 29 to January 4 of the lunar calendar, the provincial traffic police force organized 408 traffic patrols with 1,470 officers and soldiers participating; Detected and recorded administrative violations of traffic safety and order in 158 cases (including 52 cases of driving cars, 83 cases of driving motorbikes, 6 cases of driving electric motorbikes); Temporarily detained 11 motorbikes. There were 178 cases that complied with the penalty with the fine amount of 116,800,000 VND. |
