According to Reuters, on November 2, the Wall Street Journal quoted informed sources as saying that the US Department of Justice had gathered enough evidence to charge six members of the Russian government in the attack on the computers of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) before the 2016 US presidential election.

Federal agents and prosecutors in Washington, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and San Francisco have been cooperating in the investigation into the DNC cyberattack, and prosecutors could bring the case to court next year, the newspaper reported.

By accusing the individuals of being Russian military and intelligence hackers, the US will restrict their travel, but it is unlikely they will be arrested and imprisoned.

In March, the US Justice Department charged two Russian intelligence agents and two Russian hackers with masterminding the theft of 500 million Yahoo accounts in 2014.
