Improve legal knowledge on protecting sea and island sovereignty and fisheries exploitation
(Baonghean.vn) - From November 9 to 11, 2022, the Border Work Steering Committee of Nghe An province coordinated with the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, the Provincial Police, the Provincial Border Guard, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Squadron 137 - Navy Region 1 and Ben Thuy Coastal Information Station to organize a training conference to improve legal knowledge on protecting sea and island sovereignty and exploiting aquatic products for more than 900 fishing boat owners and fishermen of the three districts of Dien Chau, Quynh Luu and Hoang Mai town.
The conference provided fishermen with practical information about the Party and State's policies on Vietnam's seas and islands; the situation of the sea, illegal activities at sea related to the protection of Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty; sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy; documents regulating the prevention of the use of explosives, electric shocks, toxic substances... to illegally exploit aquatic products. In addition, through the exchange of information at the conference, fishermen have gained skills in dealing with situations arising at sea, especially when encountering foreign vessels operating in the sea.

The information and knowledge at the Conference contributed to further promoting the propaganda work on seas and islands in the locality, actively encouraging and motivating fishermen to continue to safely go offshore, effectively exploit aquatic resources in the sea and exclusive economic zone of Vietnam, develop the fisheries economy, protect our legitimate rights and sovereignty in the East Sea, and at the same time limit and minimize fishermen's violations of domestic and foreign laws.

Nghe An has 05 coastal districts and towns with a coastline of 82 km, with 02 islands (Ngu island is about 05 km from the shore with an area of 155.64 ha and Mat island is about 18 km from the shore with an area of 03 km2). Along the coast, there are 05 estuaries (Cua Lo, Cua Hoi, Lach Van, Lach Con, Lach Quen) with 04 Border Guard Stations, 01 Border Guard Squadron 2 and 07 Border Control Stations managing 33 coastal border communes and wards; with a population of 47,369 households/ 225,900 people and 3,884 ships/ boats/ over 18,456 workers directly exploiting aquatic and marine products in the sea.
