(Baonghean.vn) - Severe heat and little rain have caused many dams in Nghe An to dry up, posing a risk of not having enough water for the Summer-Autumn crop.

Recently, Nghe An province has suffered a prolonged heat wave with temperatures ranging from 40 - 42 degrees Celsius, causing the water level in many dams to drop lower and lower. Nghi Van commune is the locality with the largest rice area in Nghi Loc district with 530 hectares, however, the water source for production depends entirely on dams. At this time, the water level of dams is very low. In the photo: Ga Dam located in hamlet 2-22, which has the function of irrigating 43 hectares of rice, has now reduced its capacity by about 50%. Nghi Van is also the locality with the most dams in Nghi Loc district with 19 large and small dams, however, the water level in the dams is not much left. Some dams have even dried up. In the photo: Gieng Toi Dam, Hamlet 15, Nghi Van Commune has only a little water left in the middle of the lake, so if there is no rain, 20 hectares of summer-autumn rice cannot be planted. At the beginning of the hot season, however, the reservoir of Gieng Toi dam is already dry and cracked. Photo: QA

Nau Dam, Hamlet 14, Nghi Van Commune is also in a similar situation, the water level has dropped to only a few dozen centimeters, people can walk on the lake bed. Photo: QA

Mr. Ngo Van Thang, an agricultural officer of Nghi Van commune, said: The characteristic of the dams is that the amount of water stored depends entirely on rainwater. While the past time has been hot, there has been very little rain, water evaporates quickly, and it is expected that in the coming time there will continue to be no rain, the amount of water in the remaining dams will be at dead water level. In Hung Nguyen district, there are 7 dams, including 2 large and 5 small, located mainly in Hung Yen Bac and Hung Yen Nam communes. At this time, the water level in the dams is also low and is expected to be enough for only 1-2 more water supplies, unable to provide enough for the summer-autumn crop. In the photo: Khe Lot Dam, Hung Yen Nam commune, the water level is low, when the gate is opened to regulate the water, it cannot flow, forcing people to use pumps to supply water to the crops. The water channels at the dams in Hung Yen Nam commune, Hung Nguyen district are also bare of rocks and soil because there is not enough water to regulate. Photo: QA

Ve Vung reservoir irrigates over 500 hectares of rice in 7 communes of Yen Thanh district. Due to the continuous heat wave, the water level in Ve Vung reservoir has only reached over 40% of its capacity.
