Hot weather, Anh Son farmers earn millions of dong every day from red-fleshed dragon fruit
(Baonghean.vn) - With its sweet, refreshing taste, red-fleshed dragon fruit is chosen by many customers as a cooling fruit on these hot days. With a price of 30,000 - 35,000 VND/kg, red-fleshed dragon fruit growers in Anh Son earn millions of dong each day.
Visiting the red dragon fruit growing model of Ms. Le Thi Chau's family in village 10, Hoa Son commune, when she and her husband were busy harvesting the fruit to deliver to customers. Ms. Chau said: It has been more than a week since the dragon fruit harvest season began, with more than 80 trees, each day her family picked 500 fruits, due to the hot weather, the dragon fruit could not be picked in time for customers to buy. With the current price of 35,000 VND/kg for large fruits and 30,000 VND for medium and small fruits. Each day her family earns over 1 million VND.

According to Ms. Chau, her family's red-fleshed dragon fruit variety was sourced from Ninh Thuan province and this is the third year of harvest. Each crop lasts from May to the end of November and every 15 days there is a harvest, so it is very easy to consume. Not only that, red-fleshed dragon fruit is very drought-resistant, free of pests and diseases, and does not require much care, so in the coming time, the family will continue to expand the acreage.

Mr. Nguyen Van Binh's family in village 1, Hoa Son commune is also one of the households growing dragon fruit in Hoa Son commune. With nearly 200 dragon fruit pillars, in 2017, he harvested 2 tons of fruit, with an average selling price of 25,000 VND/kg, bringing his family a profit of 40 million VND.
This year, the weather at the beginning of the season is hot and sunny, so dragon fruit is easy to sell and has a good price. At this time, his family's dragon fruit garden is ripening early in the season, each day he can pick 600 fruits, with an average price of 30,000 VND/kg, bringing his family a profit of 1.5 million VND.

Being a cactus plant, it does not like water, likes sunlight, and adapts to the environment and mountainous terrain, so in recent years, many households in Anh Son district have conducted experimental planting of red-fleshed dragon fruit. Currently, the whole district has an area of 15 hectares, concentrated in the communes of Dinh Son, Cam Son, Hoa Son, Hoi Son, most households mainly grow in garden soil.
According to households, compared to other dragon fruit varieties, red-fleshed dragon fruit has higher quality and price. This type of tree is drought-resistant, has few pests and diseases, and does not require much care.
