Russia calls for preventing terrorism from spreading to other countries after failure in Iraq, Syria

(Baonghean.vn)- On October 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the international community needs to prevent terrorists from fleeing to other countries after their defeat in Syria and Iraq.

Speaking after meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari in Moscow, Mr. Lavrov said the two sides discussed the situation in the Middle East in particular and the region in general.

The two sides agreed to “increase efforts in the fight against international terrorism”. The head of the Russian foreign ministry stated: “The task of all parties involved in the fight against terrorism is to defeat terrorist groups such as the Islamic State (IS) and Jabhat al-Nusra, as well as to limit to the maximum extent, and further eliminate all opportunities for terrorists to flee to other regions of the world”.

Foreign Minister Lavrov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin's initiative to establish a global anti-terrorism alliance based on mutual trust and the elimination of double standards fully meets the above task.

He stressed: “We support the Iraqi government’s efforts not only in fighting terrorism, but also in normalizing the situation in the country through comprehensive dialogue with the participation of all ethnic and religious groups.” The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that Russia supports Iraq’s territorial integrity and sovereignty./.
