President Putin asserted that the two sides could reach a compromise.
"Really? He said that? Very good. It shows that we can reach a compromise, because we have a lot in common. I have stated many times that Russia and Ukraine are brotherly countries. Even more than that. In fact, I believe that we are one country... And if we have common citizenship, both Russians and Ukrainians will benefit," the Russian leader stressed.
Last week, following President Putin's announcement that the procedure for granting Russian passports to all Ukrainians would be simplified, President-elect Zelenskiy said that only a small number of Ukrainians wanted Russian citizenship, and advised Russian authorities "not to waste time trying to lure Ukrainian citizens with Russian passports."
Mr. Zelenskiy also proposed granting Ukrainian citizenship to Russian people.
