Slovakian Prime Minister: West Fails to Use Ukraine to Weaken Russia
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said the West had used Ukraine to weaken Russia, but this strategy had failed.

According to RIA Novosti on July 28, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the West expected to use Ukraine to weaken Russia, but the West has not succeeded and will not succeed.
“The West is not interested in ending the conflict in April 2022, when such a possibility actually exists. The West believes that it is using Ukraine as a card to weaken Russia. However, this has not happened and will not happen. I understand that Russia's vast territory and its mineral wealth beckon the West to act in this way,” Slovak Prime Minister Fico said in a video message posted on Facebook on July 27.
According to Mr. Fico, the West would be satisfied with a politically and economically weakened Russia, but this strategy is "ineffective" to implement.
In January 2025, Fico said that the signing of the peace agreement on Ukraine was interrupted under pressure from Western politicians shortly after the conflict broke out in 2022. According to the Slovak Prime Minister, the conflict has turned into the fact that Ukraine is in a "terrible situation" and is forced to rely on help "from all over the world".
Prime Minister Fico also previously said that former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson influenced the Ukrainian leadership not to sign an agreement with Russia immediately after the conflict broke out in Ukraine. This agreement, according to Mr. Fico, guaranteed Ukraine a European perspective and military neutrality.
