(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of December 26 in Vinh City, the Department of Science and Technology held a conference to summarize scientific and technological activities in 2016 and deploy tasks for 2017.

In 2016, scientific research and application activities were strongly directed towards enterprises and establishments for practical application in production and life. During the year, there were 85 science and technology topics and projects implemented by the Department and 5 national projects effectively managed by the central government.

In the field of agricultural science, a number of high-yield, high-quality crops and livestock have been successfully tested and experimented, such as: new purebred and hybrid rice varieties to supplement and replace some old varieties, high-yield L27 peanut variety, high-quality black hybrid gac variety, off-season tomatoes; new breed of super-fertile black pigs has been introduced. In addition, a number of products have been focused on research according to the product chain such as golden flower tea, mu tun, ginseng, passion fruit, japonica rice, oranges, etc.

In the field of natural sciences, the year focused on conserving and preserving plant genetic resources (food crops, fruit crops, vegetables, forestry plants, medicinal plants); livestock genetic resources; aquatic genetic resources. Genetic resources of many rare crops and livestock have been preserved, exploited and developed such as Mu Tu tree in Que Phong district, yellow tea, Codonopsis pilosula, Puxailaileng ginseng, Thanh Chuong buffalo gene pool, Nghe An yellow cow; Sao Va black pig gene pool.
