Nghe An: 10 samples of sick pigs in 3 localities tested negative for African swine fever

(Baonghean.vn) - From March 15 to 23, veterinary agencies took 10 samples of 10 sick pigs in Hoang Mai town, Vinh city and Do Luong district to test for African swine fever. The results showed that all 10 samples were negative for African swine fever.

On the afternoon of March 23, Mr. Ho Nghia Binh - Head of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Hoang Mai town said: From March 15 to 22, in the areaHoang Mai town6 sick pigs were detected in 5 communes and wards including: Quynh Loc, Mai Hung, Quynh Xuan, Quynh Lien and Quynh Lap.

All the sick pigs were sampled by the veterinary agency for testing. However, the test results showed that all 6 samples were negative for African swine fever.

Faced with the complicated developments of African swine fever, especially the outbreak occurring in Quynh Luu district near Hoang Mai town, the locality has always been active in disease prevention. Currently, 10/10 wards and communes in the town have set up disinfection checkpoints on main roads.

The town has organized chemical spraying to disinfect livestock barn areas in blocks and villages with developed livestock farming, high livestock density, many farms and ranches; gathering places, livestock trading markets; and livestock and poultry slaughterhouses.

At the same time, Hoang Mai town propagates to livestock farmers, especially farm and ranch owners, to clear the grass and trees around the barns, clean and collect manure to burn or bury, and clear the sewers. Previously, on March 22, in Ngoc Son commune (Do Luong), a dead pig belonging to Mr. Dang Quang Khan's family in hamlet 4 was discovered. Then, on March 23, 3 pigs belonging to Mr. Nguyen Sy Phuong's family in Xuan Tien block, Hung Dung ward (Vinh city) also died of unknown causes.

Immediately after receiving information about the dead pigs, the authorities took samples for testing and proceeded to destroy them according to regulations. By the afternoon of March 23, according to test results from the Veterinary Department of Region III, all four dead pigs were negative for African swine fever.

Currently, African swine fever is complicated, so farmers should proactively take measures to prevent the disease such as: spraying disinfectants, ensuring hygiene in barns; increasing nutritious food for pigs; monitoring the health of pigs daily to proactively take early prevention and treatment measures. When an epidemic is detected, it must be reported immediately to the authorities for a treatment plan, not allowing it to spread widely.
