Nghe An: 7 people died in fishing boat accident

(Baonghean.vn) - According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 6 months of 2016, Nghe An had 15 fishing boat accidents. Of which, 5 cases were in Hoang Mai town, 7 cases were in Quynh Luu district and 3 cases were in Dien Chau district.

The consequences left 7 people dead and 2 fishing boats sunk at sea. Total property damage amounted to nearly 12,475 billion VND.

The causes of the above fishing boat accidents, in addition to natural disasters, are also due to some boat owners being subjective in operating the boat, operating the fishing equipment, and being careless when moving on the boat, leading to accidents such as collisions, sinking boats, boat fires, poles hitting people, and crew members falling into the sea and dying.

To minimize the number of accidents and reduce damage to people and property in the coming time. Nghe An Fisheries Sub-Department has requested fishing boat owners to focus on further improving their knowledge of maritime safety and fire prevention and fighting; fully equip people and vehicles with safety equipment before going to sea; ensure two-way communication with the Fisheries Sub-Department's shore station.

Besides, purchasing fishing boat insurance and crew insurance is also a solution to reduce damage when accidents occur.
