Nghe An proposes Thanh Hoa to jointly handle the dumping incident near the coast bordering the two provinces
(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An Provincial People's Committee sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee requesting to handle the dumping that affects production and life of Nghe An people.
Specifically, in Official Dispatch No. 3223 dated May 11, 2017 of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee sent to the two above-mentioned agencies, it clearly stated: "From the beginning of May 2017 until now, there have been a number of ships that have dredged mud from Nghi Son Seaport and dumped waste in the coastal waters bordering Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces (...) about 250m from the coastal waters of Tan Minh village, Quynh Lap commune, Hoang Mai town, Nghe An province". This is believed to be the cause of the phenomenon of seawater near the shore of Hoang Mai town having a strange color in recent days, affecting the quality of the marine environment.

The results of environmental analysis of seawater samples on April 24, 2017 (before the dumping ship) and May 2, 2017 (after the dumping ship) in this area showed that the dumping had certain impacts on the ecosystem of the area, possibly affecting aquatic resources, tourism activities as well as the psychology of local people.
In the dispatch, the People's Committee of Nghe An province requested the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to pay attention, consider and give opinions on the issue of dumping in the border area of Thanh Hoa - Nghe An province. At the same time, it requested the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province to join in, providing relevant information to serve as a basis for inspection, supervision and rectification of dumping. The People's Committee of Nghe An province also emphasized the requirement "not to dump waste in the coastal area bordering Nghe An province, affecting the environment, production and life of the people of Nghe An province".
While waiting for comments from the two above agencies, the People's Committee of Nghe An province assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Provincial Border Guard Command and the People's Committee of Hoang Mai town to continue to coordinate in monitoring, patrolling and tracking ships operating in the border waters to have timely solutions to strictly handle violations according to the provisions of law.
