Nghe An: Using irrigation compensation sources to combat drought in highland areas
(Baonghean.vn) - At this time, the highland localities of Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, and Ky Son are proactively taking measures to prevent drought for spring rice, in order to minimize damage caused by drought.
Ky Son district planted 300 hectares of spring rice, but due to difficult water conditions, the district only planted 277 hectares, the rest was converted to corn. To cope with the drought, the district directed localities to propagate and mobilize people to speed up rice care in time to bloom in a safe time frame (avoiding the hot season). Rural and village irrigation teams regularly stay close to the fields to regulate water appropriately.
In 2016, Ky Son district was granted 1.2 billion VND in irrigation fee compensation to repair key projects including Na Khuong and Na Loi canal irrigation projects, Yen Hoa and My Ly canal irrigation projects, Na Ngan irrigation project in Chieu Luu commune...

In Con Cuong district, to combat drought, Con Cuong people have repaired and renewed over 100 water wheels; repaired and built over 200 new water pipes in streams. People have prepared 16 field oil pumps mainly in Chau Khe, Chi Khe, Lang Khe, Yen Khe, Mau Duc communes... The district has policies such as allocating the budget to support people with oil pumping costs of over 50 million VND.
In Con Cuong district, the source of irrigation fee compensation in 2016 was 3 billion VND, the district irrigation company balanced 1.4 billion VND to maintain and repair 10 medium and small projects...
Over the years, the Government's irrigation fee compensation policy has been creating resources for investment, management, exploitation, protection and maintenance of the irrigation system. Especially for remote areas, the irrigation fee source has contributed to effectively promoting irrigation capacity for the spring rice crop.

In Tuong Duong district, this spring crop, over 650 hectares of spring rice were planted. Right from the beginning of the crop, in addition to mobilizing people to dredge and clear most of the canals. With the source of irrigation fee compensation worth over 1.1 billion VND, the district repaired canals in Vang Mon, Tam Hop over 200 million VND to irrigate over 15 hectares of rice, repaired canals in Xieng My commune over 300 million VND to irrigate over 30 hectares of rice. With combined capital, Tuong Duong district also repaired Tung Huong dam worth 1.5 billion VND to put into use this spring crop.
