March 16, 2016 09:00

(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, the highland localities of Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, and Ky Son are proactively implementing solutions to combat drought for the spring rice crop, aiming to minimize damage caused by drought.

Ky Son district planned to plant 300 hectares of spring rice, but due to difficult water conditions, only 277 hectares were planted, with the remainder being converted to corn. To cope with the drought, the district directed local authorities to promote and encourage people to quickly care for the rice crop to ensure it flowers within the safe planting season (avoiding the hot, dry period). Rural irrigation teams regularly monitored the fields to regulate water appropriately.

In 2016, Ky Son district received 1.2 billion VND in irrigation fee subsidies to repair key projects, including the Na Khuong, Na Loi, Yen Hoa, My Ly, and Na Ngan irrigation canals in Chieu Luu commune…

They have also prepared 16 mobile diesel pumps, mainly in the communes of Chau Khe, Chi Khe, Lang Khe, Yen Khe, Mau Duc, etc. The district has implemented policies such as allocating budget funds to support the people with over 50 million VND for diesel pumps.

In Con Cuong district, the irrigation fee subsidy in 2016 was 3 billion VND, and the district's irrigation company allocated 1.4 billion VND to maintain and repair 10 small and medium-sized irrigation projects...

Over the years, the government's irrigation fee subsidy policy has been creating resources for investment, management, exploitation, protection, and maintenance of irrigation systems. Particularly in mountainous areas, the irrigation fees have effectively contributed to maximizing irrigation capacity for the spring rice crop.

To improve the efficiency of irrigation works, localities are strengthening management and exploitation, ensuring the closed loop of irrigation systems. They are also continuing to promote innovation and reorganization of irrigation management companies, consolidating and strengthening water user cooperatives to enhance the effectiveness of irrigation fee subsidies.
