Through research, it is known that the main cause is the severe cold before, during and after the Lunar New Year. During this time, many livestock farmers prepare for Tet and neglect the work of preventing hunger and cold for livestock. Livestock farmers do not fully prepare conditions to prevent and protect livestock from cold; do not cover barns; do not store food for a long time; some let buffalo and cows roam freely in the forest.
Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh - Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine said: Faced with the above situation, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue an urgent telegram "preventing hunger and cold for livestock and poultry". Requesting districts to send working groups to directly direct, guide, inspect and urge the work of preventing hunger and cold, paying special attention to highland localities where livestock are at risk of being affected by hunger and cold.
