Nghe An: Mountain students are transported by bus
(Baonghean.vn) - With buses picking up and dropping off their children at home, residents of Giang Son Dong commune, Do Luong district no longer have to worry when their children go to school...
The low-cost bus model was implemented by the board of directors of Giang Son Dong Primary School in the 2014-2015 school year. The main idea builder was principal Nguyen Van Dung. Mr. Dung said: "2014-2015 was the first year I transferred to this school and because my house was far away, I often stayed at school at noon. By chance, I also discovered that there were many students who finished their morning classes and stayed at school to study in the afternoon. Meanwhile, due to the school's conditions, they could not organize boarding, so they had to eat and rest very temporarily, some children only had a sandwich and sat around in their classrooms."
The idea of a school bus was developed by the school board. Fortunately, at that time, there were many passenger cars in the area that were "unemployed" after the Vinh - Tan Ky bus route came into operation. Therefore, not only did the school have many opportunities to choose from, but the price offered was also very "soft" compared to reality.
Giang Son Dong is one of the most difficult mountainous communes in Do Luong district. Because the commune is large, even though it has been separated, students still have difficulty traveling. The farthest place is Phuong Dong hamlet, 5km from the school, and the children of the hamlet face many difficulties when going to school. Because of such difficulties, students cannot always attend school regularly, especially when it rains or storms. In addition, because the school has a large number of students, many students have to go to school on route 15B, which is quite dangerous. In 2015, a student in the commune also died in an accident while traveling on this road. |

Every day at Giang Son Primary School, there will be 3 buses to pick up and drop off students with ticket prices ranging from 150,000 - 180,000 VND/month per student. |
In the early days of the model, the whole school had nearly 500 students but only 60 students registered. The main reason was that parents were still skeptical about the safety of this new model and many were not used to "paying fees" for their children to go to school.
Not afraid of "words and gossip", the school actively mobilizes and propagates to parents. Teacher Nguyen Van Dung said: "In fact, many people "compare" with the service fee. However, I have carefully analyzed to show parents that: the fee of 180,000 VND/child/month is only equal to one day's work as a construction worker. But if you spend that amount of money, parents do not have to worry, no longer have to waste time picking up and dropping off their children every day. Parents can stay to work overtime, earning more income".

The greatest effect is safety, creating in students self-discipline, punctuality and team spirit. |
"Slow and steady wins the race", so far, most parents have agreed to choose to send their children to school by school bus. After more than three months of operation, the number of buses has increased from 1 to 2 and now 3 buses are needed to meet the daily number of students. The school also negotiated with the bus company to offer a 50% discount or partial free tickets for families with 2-3 children participating in the model.
It is known that this model has also been built into a provincial-level experience initiative and is an effective suggestion to solve the problem of traffic safety in schools.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hoan (Tan Tien hamlet) - parent of two students Nguyen Thi Hong Hue and Nguyen Thi To Uyen (Giang Son Dong Primary School) excitedly shared: "We are completely assured because since sending our children to the bus company, parents have saved time picking up and dropping off their children, reduced the amount of personal vehicles on the road, limited congestion at the school gate; the problem of snacks in front of the school gate and along the route has also decreased significantly." |
