Nghe An: Meritorious artisan builds Uncle Ho statue in his garden
(Baonghean.vn) - To show gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, the family of Meritorious Artisan Nguyen Nghia Hoi (77 years old) in Khe Bai hamlet, Nghia Hoi commune (Nghia Dan, Nghe An) respectfully built a statue of him in their garden.
Artisan Nguyen Nghia Hoi said that the Uncle Ho Statue is a particularly meaningful project of his family, which was just inaugurated on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - 2017).
The project includes a statue, pedestal, and shelter, built solemnly in a 6-acre garden, right in the solemn position in front of the house of Meritorious Artist Nguyen Nghia Hoi's family.
The 2.5 m high statue of Uncle Ho is made of cement, steel, and gold-plated, simulating the image of Uncle Ho visiting Dong Hieu Farm (Nghia Dan) in 1961. The statue is mounted on a square pedestal, with 5 steps (higher than 1 m), paved with ceramic tiles, the bottom step has an area of 16 m2 (side 4 m). The total height of the statue is 3.5 m. Above the statue is a stylized roof, made of corrugated iron, with a large inscription "Forever grateful to the great President Ho Chi Minh".

According to Meritorious Artist Nguyen Nghia Hoi, the statue of Uncle Ho was created by Mr. Ho Minh Toan (70 years old) in Dong Xuan hamlet, Dong Hieu commune (Thai Hoa town), who used to work in the traditional room of Dong Hieu Farm. The project was built quite quickly, from the start to the completion in just 10 days (not including the time to make the statue).
Many relatives, neighbors, brothers, and friends of the family of Artisan Nguyen Nghia Hoi came to contribute to the construction as well as donate flower pots, ornamental plants, etc. to decorate the monument area to make it more solemn.
On the day of the inauguration of the monument (August 19), the children, grandchildren, brothers, and neighbors of the artist came in great numbers. Everyone was excited and happy because the family had built a meaningful project.
Meritorious Artist Nguyen Nghia Hoi shared: “After many struggles, the Uncle Ho Monument project has been completed, my wife and I were moved to tears. The project not only shows my family's love for Uncle Ho, but also teaches the tradition to our children and grandchildren.”
Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Mr. Hoi's third son, confided: "Building the Uncle Ho Monument in my garden is a way to show respect and gratitude for his great contributions. I think that sentiment is not only in my family but also in all Vietnamese people."
It is known that Meritorious Artist Nguyen Nghia Hoi is a veteran who participated in the resistance war against the US and is a retired teacher. He is currently the Chairman of the Folk Song Club of Nghia Hoi Commune and the Chairman of the Literature and Arts Club of Nghia Dan District. He has made many contributions to the local cultural and artistic movement, especially in preserving, transmitting and spreading Vi Giam folk songs.
